We have extensive experience of representing clients facing prosecutions based on Encrochat evidence.
Encrochat was an encrypted messaging service used on devices which have been created for this purpose, known as Encrochat phones.
Whilst Encrochat was closed down in 2020 and is no longer in operation, cases are still being prosecuted. Prior to Encrochat, PGP was used in devices followed by BQ Aquarius on BlackBerry devices. technology develops, new methods of sending encrypted messaging with high level security will begin to emerge.
Whilst messaging services such as WhatsApp, Telegram and Signal provide a level of encryption, Encrochat was far more sophisticated, offering a much higher level of security and privacy which was intricate and difficult for the police to penetrate.
Encrochat was known to be used most commonly by organised crime groups & gangs for drug, contract killings, money laundering and sexual offences.
If you are being investigated for your use of encrypted devices it is imperative that you seek expert legal advice on the law and your specific circumstances.
At Shaw Graham Kersh, we understand that reviewing, advising on, and preparing encrypted device cases requires meticulous attention to detail, an in-depth understanding of technology, and experience of analysing voluminous prosecution evidence.
